Imagine you’re a car designer and you can break all the rules. Ignore silly things like the laws of physics and aerodynamics, pedestrian safety regulations, and any sense of practicality.
You’d probably design something like the Infiniti Concept Vision Gran Turismo, a frankly ludicrous concept “car” designed by the automaker for the Gran Turismo 6 video game on the PlayStation 3. If the company is to be believed, the wild design shows what a “high performance Infiniti could look like in the future.” And to their credit, it actually looks a lot like the 550-horsepower Q80 Inspiration concept, one of the prettiest cars at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show.
No question it’s gorgeous, and no doubt Infiniti should have put at least some effort into picking a cool name, but what about the performance? It includes a 45:55 front/rear weight distribution (45% of the car’s weight is over the front wheels, with 55% over the back) that, according to the Infiniti press release at least, “fills users with the joy of driving by actively drifting the rear.” Excellent.
Aerodynamic accoutrements abound, with under-floor airflow control, front and back diffusers, and a boomerang shaped rear spoiler to “demonstrate high performance without compromising the impact of the body design.” Horsepower and torque numbers were not released.
