Here’s one of Google’s best April Fools’ stunts yet: Open up Google Maps today and you’ll see, in the lower left corner next to the Street View option, a little screenshot of the classic arcade game Pac-Man. Click the icon and whatever part of the world you’re currently looking at will be procedurally Pac-ified into a level of the maze game, complete with dots, power pellets and ghosts.
One wonders if Billy Mitchell is starting to feel the need to eat every dot in the entire world.
Sadly, you can’t turn anywhere into a game of Pac-Man; if there aren’t enough roads, the game won’t start. But it’ll give you an “I’m Feeling Lucky” button that you can click on to play Pac-Man in some other corner of the globe. I clicked it and it actually took me to the Taj Mahal, which turned out to be quite possibly the place on Earth that looks most like a Pac-Man maze.
