Halo: The Master Chief Collection is a longtime Halo fan’s best friend, letting players revisit beloved shooting grounds. (That is, assuming they can successfully get into a multiplayer match.) The game’s mix-and-match multiplayer mode pulls game types and maps from the entire Halo series. But some fans aren’t content with only the Halo-based offerings, so they’ve taken to building some favorites from another beloved shooter: Counter-Strike.
Xbox user MyHouseMyRules has taken to Forge mode, the custom map-making tools in Master Chief Collection, to build some of the most iconic maps from Valve’s classic counter-terrorism shooter Counter-Strike. Two maps are being built: fy_iceworld, and perhaps the most well-known map in all of multiplayer shooters: de_dust.
While the maps’ creator says the initial plan was to build the geography identically to how it appears in Counter-Strike, he later opted to take some artistic license and “give it more character” by replacing many of the walls and buildings with rocks, trees, and other natural formations. Despite the slight cosmetic differences, the maps are nearly identical to the originals’ layout and scale.
The maps are currently a work in progress, but will probably be available for anyone to download via Xbox Live upon their completion.
