Finally, a Documentary About Dogs Riding in Sidecars

Lots of people love riding motorcycles. Lots of people love dogs. So it’s only natural that there are people who love both and want to combine them. Although it is possible to train Fido to sit behind a rider and hang on, a dog’s lack of opposable thumbs, the dearth of canine-specific motorcycle gear, and common sense suggest it’s not a great solution. Fortunately, there is the sidecar.

If you’re not lucky enough ever to have spotted a canine gleefully riding in a motorcycle sidecar, enjoying the open air and joyously slobbering into the wind, you’re missing out. Filmmakers Eric and Geneva Ristau are here to rectify that with Sit Stay Ride: The Story of America’s Sidecar Dogs . The feature-length documentary tells the stories of 15 dogs and their owners, from the veteran riding cross-country with his dog Hercules to visit war memorials to the European immigrants exploring the open road with their two beagles.

It’s a fun movie that combines two things we love. Now if you’ll excuse us, we’ll be over here watching it online and contemplating organizing a screening for charity. Meanwhile, enjoy the preview:
